#SELECTED: SEAN MEYER
"A STRONG NETWORK IS KEY"
MEET 24 YEAR OLD SEAN MEYER, A YOUNG AMBITIOUS MAN WHO IS CURRENTLY SIGNED TO NEVS MODELS.
What brings Sean from Australia to London?
I left a lot behind in Australia. Family, friends and a solid job. Long story short back in 2016 just before my 21st birthday I nearly had a high-speed head-on car crash whilst working early hours on my job. It was a bit of a wake-up call for me and from that day on I promised myself that I would chase my dreams and make sure every day counts. I really wanted to see if I could make it as a model in London so I saved my money, got my British passport and moved to London in April 2018. It’s funny even though I really wanted to chase this dream, actually committing to the move wasn’t easy. I was actually sent to a remote mine site in the North West of Australia (the desert lol!) to manage 5 salt export shipments to Japan. In the 10 nights, I spent up there I kind of disconnected myself from everything and spent time meditating and thinking about where I was going with life. That was when I finally booked my flight out to London & said fuck it I have nothing to lose! Now I’m here with no regrets and things are going well.
"I MADE THE RIGHT MOVE"
What’s in your survival kit?
I’m not going to lie I’m a straight up pretty boy so I have to have my essentials for skin care. My go to is a face cream I get from Australia which has rosehip oil and tea tree oil. I use that shit religiously! I have to have water of course! Hydration is key.
My iPhone and charger...gotta stay connected
Explain how the change has affected your life.
I would say it’s given me an insight into what being male model entails. Everything from the castings to the networking and actually carrying out the jobs. I quickly worked out that building a strong network is key and also you really need to create a unique brand for yourself which separates you from the crowd. There’s a lot of competition out here so you really have to hustle to make it!
What did it take for you to realize moving to London was the right choice?
I would say my first big booking which was for a fashion show at the Puma HQ in Germany. That kind of got me really pumped up and gave me a taste of what it was like to be a male model out here in London. I remember having dinner on the rooftop of my apartment watching the sunset the night before I had to fly out to Germany. I thought to myself “damn I’m so glad I committed to this move”. Since then there has been a heap of other experiences that have reassured me that I made the right move.
What are 3 words to describe Sean today?
Hustler, lover & fighter.
What are 3 words to describe Sean in 8 years?
Humble, lover & charitable.
What are you hoping to achieve by the end of 2018?
Career wise I would have to say doing a runway & campaign for a high end fashion brand like Burberry, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Louis Vuitton or Versace. I always focus on being both physically and mentally healthy. They often come hand in hand. Making sure I stay connected with family and friends and just having a good time!
What steps are you planning to take to get there?
If we are talking about my modelling career I would say continuing to network build new relationships, and strengthen existing relationships. I always strive to bring good energy for the people around me and make sure that I can give my all to the people that present me with opportunities. Staying on top of my health and fitness is also something that I find is really important.
